‘José María García de Paredes: Meeting Spaces’ presents the legacy of one of the leading Spanish architects of the second half of the 20th century through his fruitful encounters – architectural, artistic, and musical – with the protagonists of a unique moment of vibrant cultural activity in Europe.
With 192 pages, bound in hard cover, and in bilingual Spanish-English edition, the catalogue of the exhibition organized by the Museo ICO and the Museo Reina Sofía on the birth centennial of the Sevillian architect goes over four decades of his career – from 1950 until his premature passing in 1990 – from the perspectives of different authors. Preceded by a rigorous analysis by Kenneth Frampton, the articles by Federica Morgia, Gaia Redaelli, Luis Fernández-Galiano, Kersten Geers, Ignacio G. Pedrosa, and the exhibition curator Ángela García de Paredes examine the oeuvre of the architect through its ties and connections with multiple spheres of the rich historical and cultural landscape of his time.
Along with these, the contributions of Inmaculada Maluenda/Enrique Encabo and Laura Bonell cast light on those dialogues and help understand the keys to the architect’s work method. The book’s dust jacket reveals a ‘map of meetings’ which graphically develops, classifies, and orders that rich network of projects, architects, artists, and musicians that had such an influence on the work and life of García de Paredes.
