Privacy Statement

This privacy statement explains which data we collect when you visit our online shop www.hochparterre-buecher.ch, how we use it and what rights you have. The Swiss Data Protection Act (revDSG) applies; where relevant, we also observe the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Controller

The party responsible for data processing on this website is:
Hochparterre Bücher AG
Schöneggstrasse 27
CH-8004 Zürich
Phone: +41 44 271 25 00
E-mail: info@hochparterre-buecher.ch

2. Operation of the shop via Shopify

Our online shop runs on the Shopify platform (Shopify International Limited, Ireland, and Shopify Inc., Canada). Shopify provides the shop infrastructure and processes data on our behalf as a processor. Data may also be processed on servers outside Switzerland – in particular in the EU, Canada and the USA. Shopify has put appropriate safeguards in place for this (including standard contractual clauses).

When you access our website, technical data is automatically recorded in server log files, namely: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, date and time of access, the previously visited page (referrer) and search terms entered on the website. This data is used for system security, error analysis and statistical evaluation and is not combined with other data sources.

3. Collection and processing of your data

When you place an order or open a customer account, we process the data required for this, namely your name, delivery and billing address, e-mail address, telephone number and order and payment details. We use this data solely to process your order, for customer service, to comply with legal obligations and – with your consent – to inform you about our offers.

4. Disclosure of data to third parties

To provide our services we use carefully selected service providers who process data on our behalf. These include in particular our shop operator (Shopify), payment service providers (see section 5), our newsletter provider (see section 6), the provider of our search and filter function (Searchanise) and logistics and shipping providers (e.g. Swiss Post). Where these providers process data abroad, we ensure an adequate level of data protection through appropriate measures. Data is only passed on to other third parties where we are legally required to do so.

5. Payment processing

Various payment methods are available. Payment data is processed directly by the respective payment service provider:

Shopify Payments for card payments (Shopify International Limited; payment processing complies with the PCI DSS security standard).
TWINT for payments via the TWINT app (TWINT AG, Switzerland).
Powerpay for purchase on account / invoice (MF Group / MF Financial Services AG, Switzerland). For purchases on account, the provider may carry out a credit check to assess your creditworthiness.

Only the data required to process the payment is transmitted to the selected provider.

6. Newsletter

If you sign up for our newsletter, we use your e-mail address and any other data you provide to send you information at regular intervals in accordance with your consent. We use the service Mailchimp (Intuit Inc., USA) to send our newsletter; your data is therefore also processed in the USA. You can unsubscribe at any time via the unsubscribe link in the newsletter or via the contact address given above.

7. Cookies

To provide and improve our online shop we use cookies – small text files stored in your browser. Necessary cookies enable basic functions such as the shopping cart and the login process; further cookies are used for reach measurement and – where you have consented – for marketing purposes (see section 9). You can manage, block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may limit the usability of the shop.

8. Reach measurement

To evaluate the use of our shop we use the statistics function built into the Shopify platform. This provides us with aggregated analyses (e.g. number of visits, pages viewed, approximate region of origin) which we use to improve our offering.

9. Meta Pixel (Facebook)

Where you have consented, we use the "Meta Pixel" of Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. This allows us to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Meta's platforms (Facebook, Instagram) and to show you advertising relevant to your interests. A connection to Meta's servers is established and data may also be processed in the USA. Further information can be found in Meta's privacy policy at https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy/.

10. Google Maps

Our website uses the Google Maps mapping service provided by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, USA, via an interface. When you use the map function, your IP address may be transmitted to Google and is generally stored on a Google server. Hochparterre Bücher AG has no influence over this data transfer. Further information can be found in Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

11. Social media

Our shop links to our profiles on Facebook and Instagram. These are simple links; no data is transmitted to the operators of these networks until you click the respective link and open the platform. The privacy terms of the respective provider apply to data processing on these platforms.

12. Information, correction and deletion

You have the right at any time to obtain information about the data we process and to have it corrected or deleted. You may also withdraw any consent you have given with effect for the future. Please send your request by e-mail to the address given in section 1. Please note that statutory retention obligations may prevent immediate deletion; in such cases the data concerned is blocked and deleted once the retention period has expired.

13. Data security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Our employees and the service providers we engage are obliged to maintain confidentiality and to comply with data protection requirements.

14. Changes

We may amend this privacy statement at any time. The version published on this page from time to time applies. We recommend that you read this statement from time to time.
