Hathigaon

This monograph illustrates the conception, planning, and building of the unique settlement of Hāthigaon. Designed for work elephants and their caretaking families, this so-called “Elephant Village” is located in the Indian city of Jaipur. Not only does the book present practical insights about the design development, which centred on the elephants’ comfort and meaningful interactions between the animals and humans, it also examines how similar settlement planning befitting 21st-century design sensibilities might appear in the emergent urban landscape of India and South Asia more broadly.
