Renée Gailhoustet

This book presents the work of French architect Renée Gailhoustet (1929–2023). A pioneering figure in adaptable social housing in red suburbs during the 1970s–1980s, she was overlooked in post-war architectural histories, only receiving recognition. Three major projects are shown through drawings and contemporary photography, emphasizing interlocking concrete forms and lush garden terraces. The essays by Gilles Delalex, Katherine Fiumani, and Magda Maaoui situate her work within post-war French housing, showing how her architecture accommodates diverse needs, with irregular interiors reflecting her belief in defending difference.
